Back on the road this month and I’m filling my suitcase with books aplenty, especially to fill in those long-haul flight paths and time in airports. These are the books currently drawing my attention – with a heavy shift in focus toward historical fictions and a couple of empowering reads thrown in for good measure.
I’d love to know what you’re reading this month or any books you’ve read recently that have either a) changed your life or b) challenged your perception. Please feel free to share below in the comments!
With over a million copies sold, this uplifting novel is quickly becoming a staple read for the year and one I’m so excited to dive into this September. A historical novel is written in the wake of the Russian Revolution, the novel is a journey through aristocracy, extradition and life’s small moments.

The history of the slave trade in North America has been a topic I followed in university through the history component of my degree, a point in history I am surprised to learn is still not heavily recognized or spoken about in mandatory education in the States. The book follows the story of a cotton plantation slave (Cora) as she meets Caeser, a recent arrival from Virginia, and they plan their risky escape through an underground railroad. Of course, the scope of the story is outside the realm of reality, but the factual recount of this time in history is important to discuss and I’m always willing to learn more.

Being a bit of a history buff myself and on a never-ending mission to learn more about the planet we occupy, I’m a sucker for a good historical fiction. Homegoing was published back in 2016 and although I’ve heard great things, it is a book I have yet to stumble upon in a bookstore so I’ve made an online purchase and am intent on making this book a priority this month.

I heard about this book from my career coach housemate who has a habit of introducing me to life-changing books and philosophies. The book includes interviews from some incredibly successful humans and follows an encouragement to chase success via the “third door”. The crux of the book (or so I am told) is that successful people rarely enter through the back door, not even the back door, but instead creating their own third door entrance to get what they want in order to be a success. Excited to read this one would be a severe understatement.

As many of you already know, I’m a huge fan of modern poetry and Atticus is one author I can’t seem to get enough of. After reading (and loving) LOVE HER WILD, I can’t wait to get my hands on THE DARK BETWEEN STARS and go on a second journey through the pages.
