7 Best Old Town San Diego Hotels

Originally settled in 1769 with a single fort and a mission — the first in California — Old Town San Diego is referred to as our state’s birthplace. It’s visited by tens of millions of visitors annually also for its fantastic Mexican food, heritage sites, museums, Mission San Diego de Alcala, and shops. Staying in one of the Old Town San Diego hotels puts you close to the action here but also to major transportation arteries including two freeways and the Old Town Transit Center where one can catch the bus, trolley or train.

Hotels near Old Town San Diego themselves are an eclectic, fascinating mix of historic and new buildings — many are constructed in the Spanish or Mission styles and with original elements still intact. Combining history with modern amenities treats visitors to an authentic dose of what San Diego is all about.
