There seems like an observation deck boom in New York City and the latest has been confirmed for the Chrysler Building. This will be the second observation deck for the iconic NYC skyscraper. It was once one of the best observatories in NYC but that has been closed for nearly 75 years. The Chrysler Building will have its first observatory since 1945.

What is the Chrysler Building?

The Chrysler Building is an art-deco inspired skyscraper located in Midtown, Manhattan on 42nd Street and Lexington Ave which is very close to Grand Central Station. It was designed by Willam Van Alen and constructed by Walter P. Chrysler. As a matter of fact, a lot of people c0nfuse it with the Empire State Building because they’re both in the same vicinity. Also, the skyscraper has such a distinct and unique appearance that you can’t help but wonder what that building is.

After it’s completion in 1930, the Chrysler Building was the tallest building in the world, but only for 11 months. The Empire State Building ended up surpassing it.

Why is the building so important?

The skyscraper makes up NYC’s skyline. Without it, it wouldn’t really be the same New York City we’ve come to know and love. It’s considered a masterpiece in art-deco design as well. Today, the building is used as an office building that houses many corporations and property firms.

As of right now, feel free to obviously look from out the outside, and visitors are allowed in the main lobby to check out the art-deco details within the skyscraper. The rest of the floors are restricted to the property tenants and visitors are not allowed. However, this will change as it was announced that the Chrysler Building will have its first observation deck since 1945. There is no word yet when the observation deck will be open.
