What to Expect at SeaWorld San Diego’s Halloween Spooktacular

Halloween is not canceled in San Diego, thanks to efforts by some of our most popular theme parks. SeaWorld’s Spooktacular will happen on weekends, Friday–Sunday, between October 2 and November 1, 2020. Here’s what you can expect if you attend.

Safe Trick-or-Treating

If your kids are understandably wondering how and where to go trick-or-treating in 2020, SeaWorld San Diego is one answer. They’ll be able to follow the colorful Spooktacular Trail to the Candy Garden. Candy will cleverly be dispensed to kids through a candy chute.

Fall-Inspired Menus

A highlight of any seasonal theme park event is, no doubt, the food. Guests will be able to enjoy sweet treats like candy corn, cotton candy, pumpkin cheesecake, and more.

You’ll want to think about how much you’ll eat during your visit because that may determine which ticket or ticket upgrades you buy (more on these later).

Kids Ages 3–9 Are Free

Thanks to our annual Kids Free San Diego event in October, one child ages 3–9 enters free with an adult holding a paid, full-price ticket. This is a substantial savings!

You will need to purchase a qualifying adult ticket, which you can do through SeaWorld San Diego. At that time, you’ll also add a free child’s ticket to your cart. (Note: Sightseeing passes like Go San Diego Card will not be sufficient for Kids Free promotions.)

Reservations Are Required

You must secure a SeaWorld’s Spooktacular reservation in advance. To do this, you’ll need a SeaWorld San Diego ticket. And, you have a few choices to make that will require a little bit of number crunching.

Annual Pass Members and Fun Card holders receive free admission to Spooktacular but must still make a reservation. If you don’t have either of these passes, you’ll need to purchase date-specific tickets and make reservations.

If you have kids, you’ll likely want to consider the Kids Free San Diego ticket mentioned above. You can separately purchase the SeaWorld Spooktacular Dine & Drink Add-On for $39.99/ages 10+ (six food and beverage items) and $24.99/ages 3–9 (four food or beverage items).

You can also purchase the SeaWorld Spooktacular Dine & Drink bundle that includes the aforementioned food and beverage items for both kids and adults. Which ticket you choose depends on how much time and, therefore, how many meals and snacks you plan to enjoy while there.

Safe Spacing & Precautions

SeaWorld San Diego is spread across 40 acres. Even so, park attendance will be limited during this special event so that guests can properly distance.

Guests will be subject to a non-invasive temperature check and be required to wear masks.

Other Halloween-Themed Entertainment

Guests will enjoy:

  • The Pumpkin Scavenger Hunt (always a crowd-pleaser)
  • Cookie Decorating with Cookie Monster and Elmo (new this year, an upgraded experience)
  • Physically distanced outdoor Monster Mash DJ Dance Party
  • Sesame Street Halloween Dance Party, where guests can take photos with favorite characters dressed up in Halloween costumes while on parade floats.
  • Exhibits like Shark Encounter decorated for Halloween.

Live Presentations

In addition to open outdoor and a handful of open indoor exhibits, guests will be able to enjoy some popular live shows. These include the Dolphin, Sea Lion and Orca Encounter live educational presentations. (SeaWorld San Diego rides will be closed.)
